Note: turned in stray 1/25/16, said they found him 2 weeks prior on Church St. Microchipped. 1/26/16, lefts message at 2 phone numbers on file with chip registration. 1/28/16, went to residence on file with chip registration, resident confirmed he lived there and said they'd tell the owner.  No response from owner yet. He is a friendly dog and has done well interacting with other dogs in the shelter. See his health/temperament evaluation.  CALM, GENTLE, FRIENDLY

This site is updated several times a week, but isn't up-to-the-minute accurate. For the most current info on a dog or cat, call Athens Animal Control and refer to the animal by ledger number, not name. Timeliness is essential in adoption or rescue. Don't delay. The shelter is often full, so owner-surrendered animals and those who have been there the longest are always in danger of euthanasia.

Sponsorships help rescues pay for required spaying/neutering, vaccinations and any other vet care needed.  Most rescues just break even when they have a pet adopted from them - they do it for the same love of animals that we all have. 

Owner Surrenders Die First!! 
sometimes within 24 hours OF ADMITTANCE when the shelter is full - which it almost always is. 

Lost/stray pets have a 5 day mandatory hold time after which they can be euthanized at any time. 
Impound dates are listed by each pet's entry on this web-site. Pets whose time is up or have the least amount of time are near the top of the list.
